Descent Into The Belief Hole

On this episode of Expanded Perspectives, the guys start the show off talking about how Thanksgiving went for both of them and how they celebrated Luke's recent birthday at Cidercade! Then, a pregnant woman in annoyed by the constant knocking at her door. When she opens the door, a black-eyed woman in her 50's demands to be let in and to use the phone! Next, a group of friends are sitting in a car and talking when they notice an odd-looking deer with one antler and weird forward-set eyes. Was this a "Not Deer"?

After the break, Cam and Kyle get into the very interesting tale of a large giant found in Romania in 1976 that was a towering 32.8 feet tall. About 5,500 years ago, an underground gallery was constructed in the region by the Agathyrsi. In February 2012, a group of geologists followed the gold vein in the same place. They kept digging until they ended up at the base of the gallery. To their utter surprise, they found a gravestone that was not made of common rock. The geologists took a sample, and the laboratory results revealed that the components of the tombstone included 55% 50-karat gold dust, 15% granite dust, and 30% wolfram. Also, the analysis revealed that the composite rock had been made using a type of technology unknown today.

Giants in the New World

On this episode of Expanded Perspectives, the guys start the show, talking about how fast their summer has gone by, shark week, and Kyle's upcoming vacation down on the Texas coast. Then, a group of young forest rangers in the Great Smoky Mountains were searching for a lost dog. They encountered a large bipedal creature with a dog-like face during the search. Next, a person writes in with another possible Glimmer Man sighting up in Canada.

After the break, Cam brings up some strange stories about The Yucca Man and other strange sightings of this Bigfoot-like creature. It goes by a number of names, including the Mojave Bigfoot, the Sierra Highway Devil, and even the slightly endearing nickname "Marvin of the Mojave." His appearance isn't limited to the relatively recent arrival of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center. The local native tribes have been telling stories of "hairy devils" who have lived in the deserts among the Joshua Trees for as long as native tribes have been around. As the area around the San Bernardino mountains began to develop in the middle of the 20th century, it seems the wild man, the Yucca Man, were pushed out of their native habitat and headfirst into developing civilization. Strange reports of large, bipedal beasts were reported as far west as Palmdale and Edwards Air Force Base.

The so-called time slip phenomenon has been defined as an event where a moment from the past spontaneously intrudes on the present through seemly unexplained means. Involving one person or even a group of people, many of those who claim to have experienced time slips say they merely observed a past scene, lasting only a few minutes. Others allege that they have been fully immersed in the scene visited. It is also reported that the surroundings witnessed are still, under lit, out-of-place, with a muffled or unfamiliar sound. So what are they? What is time?

Creepy Barns

After the break, Kyle brings up some horrifying tales of murderous children. With stunning frequency, new stories appear about one of the most perplexing of all crimes - homicide committed by children. As recent research has shed light on children who murder, experts have become troubled about an apparent intensification of youthful homicidal behavior. For instance, Dr. Elissa P. Benedek, director of research and training at the Center for Forensic Psychiatry in Ann Arbor, Mich., said she had seen many more youths engaged in ''mass murder,'' the killing of more than one person, in the last few months than in all her previous experience.

A pattern that disturbs scholars is that youthful homicide rates still remain near the very high level of the mid-1970's. Statistics compiled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation show 9.88 of 100,000 Americans were arrested for homicide in 1982. But the rate among 17-year-olds, for instance, was more than double the rate for all ages: 22.6 per 100,000. Concern about youth violence has changed the way grown-ups walk in cities and prompted Congressmen to prod the executive branch to focus on youth violence. The Attorney General recently named a task force on family violence which will include the study of murders by youths in its work. What drives these children to kill?
